Apart from my regular departmental service, I have been involved in various university level synergistic activities at KSU.
Besides these opportunities, I have served on the Graduate Council and have been a member of the Graduate School Task Force on the scholarly needs of Social Science and Humanities students. I am also the representative of KSU in the USDA W3001 multi-state project: "Population Dynamics and Change: Aging, Ethnicity and Land Use Change in Rural Communities."
A particularly rewarding service was my work in Mai Maihu, Kenya, supported by K-State Research and Extension and the African Studies Center. This was an outreach project, building an urban garden complex in a community with a high rate of HIV/AIDS, supporting families where children are raised by grandparents.
Memberships in professional organizations
As part of service to the profession, I have been the Chair of the Development Committee and member of the Council of the RSS (2010-2011). Regarding government relations, I testified in front of the Budget Subcommittee of the Kansas Legislation about the State Data Center network (2007) and I was part of the PAA's Government Affairs' delegation to Washington DC (2010).
